The Student Hotel adds five new hotels to portfolio

The Student Hotel group has unveiled plans to expand its European portfolio to 65 properties within five years and has confirmed it is opening five hotels in new locations across Europe including Lisbon, Paris, Barcelona, Porto plus Florence.

TSH founder and CEO Charlie MacGregor said: ‘In five years we aim to have 65 locations secured across Europe, 26,000 rooms and close to one million m2 of shared space.’

‘We will continue to disrupt the industry and offer future generations a hybrid home away from home. We will always listen to them, to evolve and adapt our offering, which will ensure we grow a hospitality company that always has one foot in the future,’ concluded MacGregor.

Manifattura Tabacchi in Florence marks The Student Hotel's third project in the city and its fifth in Italy. This development, part of the largest regeneration site in Tuscany spearheaded by Aermont Capital and CDP Immobiliare, will create a new urban community outside the historic city center.

The refurbishment of the former tobacco factory involves a €200 mln investment. TSH Florence Manifattura Tabacchi will have 318 rooms and communal spaces including lounge and games areas, rooftop pool, outside courtyard, restaurant, gym, study areas and bike rentals. The 14,500 m2 site is due to open in 2021.

TSH has also announced two new locations in Portugal. In the beach location Carcavelos it is developing a 435-room hotel in partnership with Stone Capital. The group has also secured a 300-room hotel in the city centre of Porto which will open in 2020.

The Amsterdam-based company said it is also close to securing a 300-room hotel within the Peripherique in Paris which is expected to open in 2020.

A new location is also planned for Barcelona: a 300-room property with 3,000 m2 of Collab co-working space.
