Meeting ambitious sustainability criteria is no longer a 'nice to have’. In many instances it is a binary choice that will determine whether financing will be made available. That is the opinion of Christoph Schmitz-Wenzel, managing director and head of real estate for Bayerische Landesbank in Amsterdam.
Schmitz-Wenzel will detail this when he joins the PropertyEU ‘Sustainable Futures’ panel event during Provada, Amsterdam on Tuesday 11 June. The event will take place on the Arena Stage (12-60) on day 1 of the popular real estate fair, with PropertyEU providing a pan-European flavour to the predominantly Dutch event.
Before opening the branch in Amsterdam in 2023, Schmitz-Wenzel was responsible for BeNeLux real estate customers and real estate fund customers of the bank. His more than 25 years experience includes various international postings for the bank in London as well as Asia. He holds Masters Degrees from the University of Oxford (PPE) as well as Bonn (Economics).
Joining him on stage will be Iris Kampers, associate director and sustainability advisor for Savills Netherlands. In her role Kampers is responsible for the integration of ESG into Savills’ operations. She has a background in biology and uses her experience in the field to support all departments at Savills in the Netherlands with optimising new business opportunities and developing innovative solutions.
The panel will also include Marco Villares, senior consultant, sustainability, for Drees and Sommer, a seasoned professional with a diverse background in the built environment, sustainability, communication and training. Villares holds a degree in architecture from the UK and a master’s in industrial ecology from the Netherlands.
Key discussion points during the 40-minute panel include legislative considerations and how they differ across borders, benchmarking systems, incentives for ensuring sustainability compliance and how this can still make sense in a challenging economic cycle.
