Barratt to cut 1,000 jobs amid UK market downturn

UK house builder Barratt Developments plans to lay off around 1,000 of its staff in response to the downturn in the British housing market. Taylor Wimpey, another British construction giant, said on Wednesday it was axing 900 jobs as it failed to secure a refinancing package, while Persimmon last month revealed a number of its staff were set to be made redundant. Barratt has a total workforce of 6,900.
