Over the past three years, the City of Aalborg in northern Denmark has worked on a development plan for Stigsborg Waterfront – currently the largest urban development project in the country. The development area is located close to the coast and has a central location in Denmark's third-largest city, Aalborg. In the long term, the 49-hectare Stigsborg Waterfront area will become the home of 7,500 residents and the site of 4,000 housing units.

Aalborg offers quality of life in the form of easy access to green areas and the waters of the Limfjord, a booming restaurant scene, a multitude of cultural venues and events, as well as ambitious and visionary management of the City's development. In 2016, the 'Quality of life in European cities' survey, which is conducted by the European Commission every three years, showed that Aalborg is home to the most satisfied people of all in Europe. A total of 99% of the respondents in Aalborg said they were satisfied with living in the City.

The development plan for Stigsborg Waterfront was approved by Aalborg City Council in March 2017. The plan builds on an overall development strategy for the entire area and will serve as a basis for the commencement of work in Stage 1 of the project.

Now that the development plan has been approved, the City of Aalborg is looking for a majority investor that can provide the capital needed as well as the financial and technical capacity required in the area development company appointed to deliver the development services.

The process of finding an investor begins in early May 2017 and is scheduled for completion in mid-September 2017.
